Permanent makeup is most appropriately called Cosmetic Tattooing, it involves tattooing of pigments into the skin to simulate the appearance of makeup.

A cosmetic tattoo is performed by a specially trained technician using a small micro-pigmentation pen at a more shallow level into the skin as opposed to the large coil machines that deliver pigments at a deeper skin level as used by a tattoo artist for body art tattoos.

Common areas that a cosmetic tattoo may be applied include the lips, eye-liner, eyebrows, beauty spots, skin re-pigmentation for scars or in skin conditions such as vitiligo, or for nipples after breast reconstruction for mastectomy patients.

It is make up that has been permanently tattooed on. Such as lip liner, lipstick, eye liner and eye brows as the most common.. It does have to be touched up every year or two as all tattooing fades a little. I have all of it done and love it.

What is cosmetic tattooing?

Dermagraphics, also known as cosmetic tattooing, is when tattooing is used to replace makeup, create cover for missing hair (eyebrows for instance), cover blemishes, cover scars, or restore missing color (lips, breast areolas). Unlike decorative tattooing, dermagraphics is often used to either restore a natural appearance or to function as makeup. The techniques are similar to decorative tattooing, except different pigments are used and the artist must take care to match colors more closely and to have a keener eye for detail. Common types of work involve permanent eye shadow, permanent lipstick, permanent lip liner, permanent blush, enhancement or "replacement" of the eyebrows, scar cover-up, vitiligo cover-up, and areoloa restoration. In rare cases, tattooing is used under the authority of an ophtalmologist to create a more normal appearance of the eyes, in the case of blind and deformed eyes. That way, enucleation (eyeball removal) and fitting with a prosthesis can be avoided.

Yes, you can. Depending on whether you have been applying semi-permanent eyebrow makeup for a long time or for less time, there may be a slight difference in the color of your eyebrows. If your eyebrows are darker than semi-permanent eyebrow makeup or are currently lighter than the color that is suggested in your kit, then we recommend using the color chart provided to ensure that you get the right match. If your eyebrows are lighter than semi-permanent eyebrow makeup or currently darker they may benefit from being slightly lightened once again with a semi-permanent brow liner.
