P0500 means that the vehicles speed as read by the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not being measured properly. Most likely either the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not working properly or there is a malfunctioning wire leading to the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). You might notice a loss of anti-lock braking capability, the speedometer might not be working, or your automatic transmission might behave erratically.

The check engine light is on because of an emission control problem. In order to shut it off you have to have it hooked up to an OBDII code reader. The code reader will give you a code as to why it is on and can shut it off for you.
check the crank and or cam sensor, the problem was the crankshaft sensor
disconect your battery cable perferably the ground for 15 to 30 seconds and hook it back up it should reset your computer and cancel out your problem if it come back that means you have a problem and it is throwing code telling to go the computer to find out what is failing but only your mehcanic can do this for you.
