Alan H. Monroe (Principles and Types of Speech) proposed three kinds of speeches -- three general goals: to entertain, to inform, to persuade. The speech to entertain has as its goal to catch and hold attention. It may provide information, and it may persuade; it may even be humorous, though that is not a requirement of the speech to entertain. The speech to entertain meets its goal if it does nothing more than catch and hold attention. From Monroe's viewpoint, all speeches must be entertaining, in the sense that they must hold attention. Speeches to inform and to persuade go beyond that goal.

A entertaining speech would be different. Different meaning: unusual. If you want attention for you campaign, you should alert the crowd or audience that you are either: cocky, cool, weird etc. Maybe throw in a mac arena dance or something. GET THE CROWD TO HAVE AS MUCH FUN AS YOU THINK YOUR GOING TO HAVE. But DO NOT make a cheesy smart speech. Pin the point: tell why your running, what your going to do, and about yourself. Don't tell about what you've done and participated in, it's not a fashion show. Just be yourself: make your speech truthful and use your type of personality. Good Luck!
