Nudity mostly. But it is a gray area. Some say all life forms are forbidden, others say that it is ok as long as it is not respected as the Qura'an or as if they are worshiped.

Mohamed told his wife not to make a pillow with a representation of a bird on it because to do so would be competing with God. By strictest interpretation, Muslims are forbidden to represent any life in art; people, animals, or even plants, although it is has been observed with varying degrees of strictness from country to country. One benefit of this rule is the ornate geometric patterns seen in Muslim art, because depicting life is forbidden.

What is the history of the Arabic calligraghy?

To the best of my knowledge, Arabic calligraphy became a popular art form because idolatry is strictly forbidden in Islamic culture. Although, Arabic calligraphy was not non-existent before Islam, I don't think it was a popular form of art until it was used for religious purposes.
