monoprinting.... linoprinting...... dont know anymore soz
The Linoprinter is or was a graphic-arts product in the hobby or amateur category that was developed by Mattel in l964 and was marketed under the handle of the parent company, Matson & Elliott as to forestall excessive (Toy) connotations. basically themachine was neat combination of a typesetting machine and printing press, was entirely mechanical(no power consumption) and used rubberized type , eliminating thermal hazards. The device ws patented in l964 and more or less heavily marketed in l966-67, falling out after that. it is thought the niche market was too small, few of these machines have survived and technical manuals are scarce, I have never seen one! stores had problems do we sell this thing as a toy or hobby item or with stationery lilke typewriters and other office machines. there are rumors there was a Linoprinter-C using, are your ready for this, CYRILLIC type, Comrade! I have never seen one of these. possibly Mattel/Matson and Elliott got into (patent Wars) with Mergenthaler, who owned the rights to linotype but the machine worked on an entirely different and safe (for youth audience ) principle it is a difficult product to track down, but was madd-marketed in about l966-67 in the Yule Season/ they did some advertising in DC comic books!
