Polar maps usually put the named pole at the center of the map.
A line of latitude is the distance north/south from the equator, and they are always parallel to each other, which is another name used to refer lines of latitude, "parallels." It starts at 0 degrees, and goes to 90 degrees for both north and south.

Polar projections are often made in what is called the Azimuthal Equidistant Projection. The projection would be made tangent at the north pole, or at the south pole. These projections allow you to make linear measurements from the pole to any point on earth. These measurements are the shortest distances from the pole to the points and can be directly compared to one another. A polar projection shows the poles; I learned it in my science class.

This city is known as Orel. This is a city often found in clues for crossword puzzles.
North does NOT repel south, etc.; rather, north ATTRACTS south, and north REPELS north. What happens here is as follows. The north pole of one magnet is attracted to the south pole of another magnet. The north end of a compass is attracted by Earth's magnetic SOUTH pole; therefore, Earth's ACTUAL magnetic south pole is to the north. However, and confusingly, this has traditionally often been called Earth's magnetic north pole.
By "vertical", we understand "away from the center of the Earth". So a line thatextends vertically from either pole heads away from the other pole. The only straight line joining the north and south poles is the Earth's axis of rotation. On the other hand, meridians of constant longitude are imaginary lines on the Earth'ssurface that join the poles and often appear printed vertically on certain map projections.
Latitudes range from 90° south to 90° north, also often expressed as -90° to +90°. 90° south latitude is the south pole, and 90° north latitude is the north pole.
The Civil War had a huge effect on both the North and the South. In the South, many plantations and farms were destroyed and their owners were away fighting the war. In the North, women often took up jobs that were originally performed by their husbands.

The stripe on the back of a credit card is a magnetic stripe, often called a magstripe. The magstripe can be "written" because the tiny bar magnets can be magnetized in either a north or south pole direction.
