" Post & beams framing " or Known as traditional timber framing - as well- is thousands years old construction type, which have been used to build everything from large homes down to small sheds !

This type of construction uses pegged mortise and tenon joints to connect the posts and beams of the frames together - the posts being vertical and beams being horizontal. Diagonal members are added to brace the frame and prevent it from racking the entire structure.

however, It is a time consuming method of building, but it helps over thousands of years to have some advanced carpentry skills, in wood (which was the most used ) and different materials came to used later on.

Whoever, this construction type- which was used structural wise, is used as decoration type -mostly - since we developed new , faster & cheaper structural types & materials to build our constructions.

Effective length of a beam?

the efffective length of a beam is the length along the beam at which the beam will fail when a load is acting upon it. This effective length is usually near the centre of the beam as that is where the stresses are the greatest. For example a fat chick jumping up and down on the beam would reduce the effective length dramatically as the loads are semi-constant but ginormous.

How is the load on roof beam framing transmitted to the foundation in plank and beam framing?

In plank and beam framing, the load on the roof is transmitted to the foundation through a series of structural components. The roof's weight is first carried by the roof beams, which distribute the load down to the floor joists. These joists then transfer the load to the supporting beams or walls, ultimately directing the force to the foundation. This system ensures that the structural integrity is maintained and the loads are evenly distributed across the foundation.
