Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 clockwise on the distributor cap.

The cylinder numbers where the plug wires go on the spark plugs are.

Driver's side head front to rear is 1-3-5-7

The other head........................ is 2-4-6-8

Now you will need a helper, First take the distributor cap loose so you can lift it up and see the rotor when it turns. Now take the #1 spark plug out and put your finger over the plug hole in the head. Get your helper to bump the engine over with the key real slow a little at a time while your holding your finger on the hole and as soon as it blows air out from under you finger pay attention to where the rotor is pointing when it does. Then mark the side of the distributor with something. You may need to bump the engine over again now that you have the fill for it and know it won't hurt you.

When you have your mark on the dist. where the rotor is pointing when it blows out from under your finger and stops blowing. Then set the cap back on the dist. and the spot on the cap that is lined up with your mark is where # 1 wire goes to. Then wire it clockwise, like it says at the top. If #1 is not about 5 oclock on the dist. cap when looking down on it, Then you have the distributor in wrong. With the #1 pistion all the way up on the compression stroke / TDC/ Top Dead Center, the rotor should be pointing to the #1 cylinder on the engine. That is if you put a string on the #1 plug hole and run it to the distributor. The rotor should be in a stright line with the #1 cylinder. TDC on the compression stroke is when it blows air out from under your finger. I hope I did not confuse you. NEUTZ
