He admired Millet's who had painted a similar painting.

Van Gogh was always on the side of the blue collar worker, for without them where would this world of ours be. They are the ones who sew the seeds while the educated ones learn all the ways to becomes the thieves.

The audience is drawn into the painting by the glowing disk of the rising sun in citron-yellow, which Van Gogh intended to represent the state of things that come from a supernatural power or deity, such as God, or spirit beings, and are therefore regarded as sacred and holy. Van Gogh depicts the cycle of life in the sowing of the wheat against the field of mature wheat, there is death, like the setting sun, but also rebirth. The sun will rise again. The wheat has clearly just been cut, but the sower plants seeds for the new crops to grow through. As you can see the tress in the distance are bare, the leaves have fallen from them, but the leaves will grow back again just like the sower plants. I feel that because Van Gogh uses a lot of complimentary colors it bring quite a lot of intensity to the painting. He uses a lot of blue and orange flecks in the plowed field in the painting and the violet gold in the spring wheat behind the sower. Van Gogh uses colors in his painting that are symbolic and effective, when speaking of the colors in his work he said: I couldn't care less what the colors are in reality, this shows that he alters his painting to how he feels they should be perceived by the viewers, I think that to him the colors make his painting completely different and completely changes the image of the painting and I understand that, he uses color that he wants to use color that change the way people look at his paintings, and its working everything about this painting is perceived around the colors they hold the painting together because its symbolic for a reason.
