The Greeks began studies on the art of how to change the nature of things, that is,

of how to achieve transforming it.

This art was called chemia that means how to study the earth. When the Arabs invaded Egypt, and at the same time they had done with the Greek people, they added to the word chemia the prefix al, generating the word alchemy.
