Axel is neither gay nor straight. He is a Nobody and therefore could not have feelings for anybody or anything, regardless of certain dialogue throughout the story. The feelings that Axel gains while being around or thinking about Roxas is an emphasis on the power of Sora's heart and the power of friendship. Many fans of the series believe that Roxas and Axel have more of a relationship, but the story and character designer, Tetsuya Nomura, has stated numerous times that there are to be no in-game relationships.
