I found that the quality of the acting in the play was not as strong as I had hoped. I was hoping to see the characters to be loud and with very heavy Italian accents, like this Italian family should have been. I found the strongest performer was the mother (Rosa). She played the part of the classic stereotypical Italian mother perfectically. She was not afraid to really bring out the stubbornness that Italian mothers that cook, clean and work around the house should have. I found that all the actors had good staging, blocking and entrances and exits. They all gave each performer their chance in the "spotlight". I found the characters developed by the original screenplay were very funny. They were somewhat relatable, because I have a Greek family who act like this family but to a much smaller degree.
This play had many props and the stage was very well thought out. Some of the props that were food were actually real, which gave an even bigger impact in this play, because the whole family was supposed to love Rosa's ragu and the smell of the food, made the audience feel the same way. The set was really impressive, especially during the intermission, how they could change the set so quickly and efficiently to change it into a completely different room in the house. When I read the At-rise description of the play, I did not think they would make the set as nice as they did. For example, they actually had a sink that had water coming out of it and a stove to make onions sizzle.
Some of the technical theatre elements used in this play was monologues and rising action. The monologue was when the father gave a long speech about his thoughts on the matter that was happening at the present time. This contributed to show the relationship between Pepino and Rosa. The rising action was when Rosa and Pepino were arguing and then Rosa faints. This contributed to show how this family had problems that needed to be resolved. I have grown a great appreciation for the actors on this play, because I know how hard it is to incorporate these theater elements in a play.

Boy with Baby Carriage or Salutation The picture shows three young boys on a Sunday afternoon. Two boys are off to play baseball. The third boy, dressed in his Sunday best clothes, has his baby sister in a baby carriage taking a stroll. He also has a baby bottle in his breast pocket. He looks livid about the other boys' demeaning gestures.
