I have just purchased a painting similar to your description. I have no idea how old it is. It's called "The Smithy" and the man is leaning over a boy holding the broken wheel of his red wagon. Of to the left is another boy looking into the shop, where another man is working. He has on a wide rimmed hat. The painter's name is Detlefsen. I hope that helps you, if it's the same painting.
