Bacteria and plant roots perform nitrogen fixation, which allows plants to use the nitrogen. Nitrogen is used in cells to build proteins and DNA. However, plants get their nitrogen as "nutrients" in the soil.

Is lightning good for plants?

Lightning can be good for plant growth. This is because it helps add nitrogen to the air, which plants need to conduct photosynthesis.

How can some plants increase the nitrogen content in the soil surrounding them?

Some plants, particularly legumes, can increase the nitrogen content in the soil through a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria, such as Rhizobium. These bacteria inhabit root nodules and convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form that plants can use. This process enriches the soil with nitrogen, benefiting both the plants and the surrounding ecosystem. Additionally, when these plants die or shed leaves, they release nitrogen back into the soil, further enhancing its fertility.

Plants which assist in nitrogen fixation are?

Legumes

How does lightning effect the plants around the area in which it has hit?

it can burn the plants and it can also give off harmful chemicals to the plant. It can also burn and die if it does not have special care to it's self. Wow... Lightning turns nitrogen into a usable form for human consumption through plants. Lightning converts the nitrogen in the air from a gaseous form to a usable form for plants. This process is called "fixation". It does not burn plants or cause harmful chemical reactions of any kind.

What is nitrogen fixation accomplished by?

ok so............... nitrogen fixation helps the plants and the bacteria to convert atmospheric nitrogen into the amonia ....amonium...nitrate and nitrite {simple substances of nitrogen}............these are the only forms of nitrogen that could be used by the plants
