Can you put stain in polyurethane to darken the color?
Yes, you can put polyurethane paint over eggshell in latex or eggshell in oil.
Yes
if you have used a wax finishing agent on your subject piece, it might not be a good idea to use polyurethane over it. You probably should strip the wax coat as best as you can and then coat with poly. something tells me that since wax is an "organic base" material and urethane is synthetic, it might react with each other in a adverse way, or the poly won't adhere to the wood at all. Try contacting a builder's supply outfit and ask for specific information on this subject. Don't take a chance and ruin a good piece of wood. Good Luck!
I am actually getting ready to try this myself... I talked to someone at Lowe's and they reccommened a really thick polyurethane product they carried. One coat was equivalent to 30 coats of the normal kind. I hope it works! I am ready to try it.
No, in fact the wax can ruin the polyurethane finish. Clean the floor with a good wood floor cleaner. Do not mop with water.

One you can't get in reasonable quantities. Fortunately, there are a couple ways around having a shiny floor. You can put one coat of matte on top of your gloss poly, or you can put a scuffing pad on a floor sander.

not candle wax but the wax that you can put wax warmer it was spilled
If you are allergic to wax don't get the wax kind.
You shouldn't use wax unless the floor was finished with wax. More than likely, the floor has oil or water based polyurethane on it. Why you shouldn't use wax on any polyurethane finish, it prevents the finish from adhering if you ever have the floor re-coated with poly. You will have to spend around two dollars a foot to sand them rather than .50 or .75 cents a foot to re-coat the floor. Prices depend on where you live.
