Usually I keep my dart frogs at temperatures between 75 and 82 degrees. But don't let the temperature go above 82 because only a couple of hours with temperatures over 82 can kill your frogs. So just keep tat in mind! Also at night let the temperature fall a couple of degrees, this can be good for your frogs and promote breeding activity. I hope this helped.

Where is the poison dart frogs poison?

Most species, and there are several, release an alkaloid toxin through their skin. They do not synthesize their own poison but store chemical toxins from some of the insects they eat like ants and termites. This is good since it means that many captive frogs do not have sufficient levels of toxin to harm their owners. It is the secretions of the skin of the poison dart frogs that is toxic. All the frogs of this family "borrow" toxins from what they eat that actually makes the toxins (mostly ants and mites) because the frogs themselves don't manufacture the poisons. These toxins, a few of which can be quite dangerous, are "worn" by the frogs for protection.

Can different species of poison dart frogs live together?

Poison dart frogs live in small colonies, with members spaced a few feet apart. These colonies usually consist of about six individuals, but they are not particularly territorial and tolerate living in close proximity to each other. In captivity it is best to give the poison dart frogs enough space for their "mini-territories". A good rule of thumb is 10 gallons of vivarium space per frog; therefore a group of four poison dart frogs should be kept in a 40-gallon vivarium.

Can turtles and dart frogs live together in the same habitat?

This is EXTREMELY inadviseable. Dart frogs are toxic. While they are much less toxic in captivity, they still produce toxins. They are also extremely small. Turtles are omnivores, and may decide to try to take a bite. This would be fatal for the frog AND possibly for the turtle. Dart frogs are poor swimmers, and would drown in a water turtle's pool. Box turtles and other land turtles would definitely see the frogs as a potential meal. In general, it's not a good idea to mix different herp species in one cage. If you are really set on doing so, it must be a HUGE enclosure, with hiding space and habitat for all of the inhabitants, and they must all have the same environmental requirements. Obviously, they should also all be around the same size, and not prone to prey on one another. Dart frogs and turtles--NOT a good mix.

Are red eyed tree frogs compatible with poison dart frogs?

I do not believe this is true. Poison Dart Frogs ally with there own type not even the same animal as themselves. But this was a very good question.

The place where poison dart frogs live are called rain forest. This warm, wet weather is what poison dart frogs need. The rain lets the kinds of plants the frogs need to live on grow here. How do you protect yourself from a dangerous frog?

frog? It's not like a poison dart frog will hop into your shoes but, if you accidentally touch one in the wild, seek medical help right away. Your skin could very irritated if in contact from the poison frogs. Unless you want to hunt like the natives in the Amazon Rain Forest don't go looking for these froggies. The way the natives hunt is by taking the frog and squeezing it's skin just above a dart. They take just enough poison to cover the tip of the dart. Then they put the dart into this sort of tube and they wait for prey. Once they find a good plump hog they blow into one end of the tube to send it flying. The dart pops out the other end of the tube and sticks itself into the animal's hide. Even thought the dart itself is not enough to kill the animal, the poison will. The poison gets into the animal's blood stream and attacks the body killing it.
