To test for security problem, turn the ignition to the on position, and look in the dash for the security light to go off after a few seconds. If it does not go off, you can try to reset it. Sometimes this can be done by leaving the ignition in the on position for about 45mins to an hour. Do not turn the ignition off. Instead, turn the key like you are trying to start it. If it starts, you have a problem with the built in security program on the computer. Sometimes it will not happen again, other times it may leave you stranded. If it is a security problem, the best thing to do is replace the computer, or have a dealership do so.
No spark
No fuel what could be the cause does it have a security system for the fuel
No compression
If the 1998 Olds Achieva will not rev over 2500 rpm there may be an issue with the idle control valve. A bad or unplugged valve will not let the car accelerate over 2500 RPM.
I have used radiator stop leak before in my 1996 Olds Achieva SC with the V6. I put it directly into the coolant resovor. It went in fine for me. This did not give me much help though. I would not recommend using stop leak. It will clog your heater core and then you will have more than the radiator as your problem. Fine a new radiator and replace it that is the best advidce i can give you.
Replace the fuel filter and have the ignition module checked.
After checking online Advance Auto Parts was the only one who listed a starter relay for this car. They do not show it on computer at store (only on website). It is mounted to radiator crossmember above the fan, you can trace the wires directly to the starter.Turned out ground wire from relay to crossmember was broken inside wire insulation causing intermittent failure to crank starter.Installed new end on wire and all is back to normal.By the way Olds dealer parts dept. also stated this car did not use a starter relay when it clearly has one.I hope this helps someone else as it was a pain to find problem. It doesn't show up in the computer, and the dealer says it doesn't have a relay, because originally it didn't. The relay was installed as part of a recall. Trying to crank the engine for too long or leaving the key in the on position would cause the ignition switch wires to overheat, melting the wires and potentially setting the car (and you) on fire.
