Yes she did. When she met George she was a widow with 2 children and several years older than Washington. Just being a woman alone in the 1700's was hard and I imagine George was not an easy man to live with. He was not the type of fellow that you walked up and told a joke to. I think he was rather stern, had a big ego, and stayed to a strict schedule in life. The fact that he was gone to war for several years was also hard on her and there was a large plantation to run. Yet, when he died she refused to come to the service and watched from an upstairs window. After his death she pretty much lived in one room at Mt. Vernon.
