Cartographers compensate for these distortions in a number of ways, but usually one type of distortion is sacrificed to create accuracy in another dimension.
Globes do not exhibit these distortions, but nearly all globes are made perfectly spherical which, in itself, introduces a slight distortion since Earth is a bit flattened at the poles.
