Most artists would say "draw what you know." Some of the greatest works of art are not particularly unusual. They are scenes from the artist's hometown or out in the country or in some interesting place. So, draw your family, a close friend, even yourself!

Rather than draw a horse rearing, I think you should draw her favorite horse for your friend's birthday as that way it will have more of a personal meaning.
