It depends if it's a boy or girl, and I always call my character by the name that pops into my head, you can even name your character by one of your family members if that's what you want.

∙ 13y agoThis is an excellent tutorial for what you are asking here. Keep in mind though that the main point of the anime art style is to be highly stylized and to have your own style. See what work for you.
As far as subject matter, you can draw ANYTHING. Often to start, a portrait is nice, but full body shots are not as difficult as they seem. Have fun with it!
