That would all be relative to the size of the mag since they have to match up. Too large...the needle will jump a little from side to side, too tight...you will be banging up the needles in the nib. If you have to ask, then you need a tad bit more help than this I'd wager, but in any event...I am of the opinion that this day in age that stainless tubes are outdated and overly just not as sterile as I'd like them to be even after they've been ultrasoniced, scrubbed, autoclaved and spore tested. I find that using prepackaged and disposable needle/grip combos are the only way to go anymore and have been doing this for the last few years. It completely eliminates ANY chance of cross contamination, and to me, is the only logical way to go.

Can you use an 8 round liner tattoo needle with a 7 tube?
It'd be pretty snug, but it would fit. However, there is a really good likelihood that you will bang up the tips of the needles trying to get it through. If you're in that much of a snag, and are dealing with plastic tubes, glove up and take a sterile toothpick and push it into the nib tip and stretch the hole out a little. Take care in that you don't create any burs or obstructions that could bang the needles up. If you are dealing with stainless tubes, don't try to get it through.

Can you outline with round colouring needles?
Not usually. A "round" needle is actually a group of needles welded together. An outlining needle is one needle. If you outlined with a shading needle you'd get a very thick line. If the piece has real thick outlines, you could use a shading needle to do them, but most tattoos have thin outlines. This would be what you call lack of knowledge see me myself i have used up to an eighteen round liner (18 RL) the difference is the configuration where a liner is set so that the tips of the needles are clustered in a tight round configuration the shader's are a little more spread out , and to answer your question you could use a shader to line with but your line would be foggy or blurry because you points are spread to far apart

Yes, like everything else there are schools for tattooing, but I havent heard of any that ain't a ripoff....One online school claims they can teach you to tattoo for 10,000 dollars.........Yeah right!!!! With no hands on experience you wont learn diddly...... Instead do it the right way seek out the best tattooer you can find and talk to him about being an apprentice.....It will cost you some,but I doubt that it will be anywhere near ten grand....And don't give up yer day job, it may take two to three years. People go to Tattoo school to learn how to how to take their artistic skills and transfer them to the tattoo machine. This process doesn't take years to learn, it actually takes only a few days. When you train under master instructors who is willing to show you the good stuff and how to run a safe, clean shop ...you can learn very fast. The only school I can recommend (having been to the school myself ) is The Worlds Only Tattoo School. I went as a reporter to several of the schools classes over a 2 year period an watched many students learn to tattoo very fast. Some of the art coming out of that school is amazing! This is talking about the tip of the needle. Standard is round, i don't know about curved, that's kind of scary, at least I have never heard of them, however there are tapered tips as well, which is probably what your talking about. Mag needles are stacked, if there is no stack they are also called flats. For the artist, tattooing is all about technique, and depending on your technique, you may choose to use a tapered needle, or a standard round.

What needle do you use when colouring a tribal tattoo?
for tribal tattoos you should use a nice defined line for outline with say at least a 5RL or you can use a 7RL and then fill in your black with a 9 mag. 14 mag needles are good for big areas (i speak of magnum needles because i do not prefer flat needles, however if you use flats you can use this same advice). the bigger the area the bigger the grouping of needles you can use. but you must know how to use bigger groupings of needles and have the tips for them plus know the voltage to use on them. personally i use "#10 9mag bugpins". they are wide spread groupings and smaller diameter needles which for me pack black and color very well. shade in your tribal with paint brush strokes for shade and tight circles and cross strokes for filling in black, but never overwork the tattooed area. and if your pigments arent packing into the skin then something is wrong. get new pigments then after youre done run your liner back over between the line work you did and the black filled area to complete the piece and merge the line properly to the black. beginners often forget this and leave skin color gaps around the line work of the tattoo.
