In order to be a photographer, you don't really need any qualifications. All you really need to know is the concepts of photography and exactly what you are doing. Also its good to have an understanding in what you are photographing, for example how skateboarders do what they do. You'll need good people skills if portraiture is what you want to get into. You can get qualifications in photography but in my opinion, all you really need is the passion, and a good portfolio..

Photography is an interesting artform and like most it requires many different sets of skills. You need to have an artistic eye and be able to create compositions that are pleasing to the viewer. You need to also have the ability to think technically and understand the math and numbers involved in properly exposing an image. If you're photographing people, you also need to be able to give direction and be able to put people at ease. If you would like to make a living at photography, you need a good business sense and the skill set to promote yourself.
