Da Vinci was primarily a painter. His inventions did not get beyond models or drawings. One of the things about him is that he finished very few projects. He was often hired and he either started the project and didn't finish or didn't start at all. He was sued several times for not completing work. His work as a painter far outnumbers the inventions he thought of. One of the things he did was to keep notebooks everyday with ideas, thoughts, and questions. Later, he would go back and try to find answers to the questions. Today over 4,000 of his notes still exist.
