He was famous for painting excellent Spanish paintings. Pablo was also famous for being the most influential artist of our time. He was famous for being a great artist at a young age. (which is 10) Pablo gave visible form to love, death, terrors and nightmares.

One main reason is that Picasso developed together with George Braque Cubist painting. Many other artist in his time and later recognized in Cubism a new and completely other way of perception; even the American painters after 1940 were strongly inspired by Picasso and Cubism. So he gave expression to a modern way of life.

But Picasso did not stay in Cubism, he was not a man of one style or art direction.

He had an open mind and was interested in surrealism and abstract art as well, and used many of their inventions in his own art. He stole everything he could use and was very openly in this attitude: he encouraged even the other artists to steal as much as possible.

Some quotes of Picasso himself reveal his typical independent attitude:

"I do not believe I have used radically different elements in the different manners I have used in painting. If the subjects I have wanted to express have suggested different ways of expression, I have never hesitated to adopt them. I have never made trials nor experiments. Whenever I had something to say I have said it in the manner in which I have felt it ought to be said. Different motives inevitably require different methods of expression (Paris 1923)."
