I know the largest and strongest earthquake in the US as in Anchorage Alaska, not positive, I think it was just one. It was early 1900's or late 1800's and destroyed the city.

How many times greater is the amplitude of an earthquake with a magnitude of 6 versus an earthquake with a magnitude of 4?

100 times

An earthquake with magnitude 7.5 has how many more times the energy than a 6.5 earthquake?

Seismic energy increases by a factor of about 31.6 for each increase of magnitude, so a magnitude 3 earthquake has 31.6 times more energy released than a magnitude 2 earthquake.

How many times greater is the maximum ground motion of a magnitude 5 earthquake compared with that of a magnitude 3 earthquake?

The ground motion of a magnitude 5 earthquake is 100 times greater than that of a magnitude 3 earthquake. This is because each whole number increase in magnitude represents an increase in amplitude by a factor of 10.

Has there ever been an earthquake in Wisconsin?

There have been a few earthquakes felt in Minnesota, but many people have lived in the state their whole lives and never experienced an earthquake. The first earthquake was recorded in 1860. The largest earthquake was a Magnitude of 4.6 on July 8, 1975. The most recent earthquake in Minnesota was recorded on February 9, 1994.

How many times larger is a 5.5 magnitude earthquake than a 3.5 magnitude earthquake?

100 times larger

How many times stronger is a magnitude 9 earthquake than a 5 earthquake?

A magnitude 9 earthquake is 10,000 times stronger than a magnitude 5 earthquake. The magnitude scale is logarithmic, meaning each whole number increase represents a tenfold increase in amplitude and 32-fold increase in energy release.

What is the biggest earthquake recorded in California?

The largest recorded earthquake in California was the Fort Tejon Earthquake of 1857. It was on the San Andreas fault line and estimated at 8.0 on the Richter scale. The most destructive earthquake in California history however, was the San Francisco of 1906. It was also on the San Andreas fault line, registered 7.9 on the Richter scale, caused massive destruction to the city and over 3,000 people were killed as a result.

Approx how many times more powerful is an earthquake with a score of 7 than 1 with a score of 6?

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7 is 10 times more powerful than an earthquake with a magnitude of 6. This is because the magnitude scale is logarithmic, meaning that for each whole number increase in magnitude, the amplitude of the earthquake's waves increases tenfold.

How many minutes of hours after an Earthquake of a magnitude of 8.9 or more does a Sunami happen?

Depends where the earthquake is at.

How a magnitude of 8.0 earthquake can be classified as a low- intensity earthquake?

a magnitude-8.0 earthquake can be classified as a low intensity earthquake because depending on where it occured, is realllyyy depends on how many people felt it and how bad it affected them by damaging things

How many earthquakes occur in one minute?

The answer depends on the magnitude of the earthquake. Over the last 20 years there have been approx 4 million earthquakes annually which is equivalent to an average of 8 every minute. Earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater occur, on average, 0.00003 times a minute.

How many tsunamis have made the US worst earth quake list?

A tsunami is caused by an earthquake, which means that the earthquake would make the Earthquake list. Whether the list would include information on the created tsunami is unknown. Magnitude doesn't always correlate directly to the magnitude of the earthquake nor does it have a direct relationship with the number of deaths or the amount of destruction caused. The highest magnitude Earthquake was recorded in Chile in 1960 with a Magnitude of 9.5. ThisEarthquake created a tsunami that was initially 82 feet high, diminished to 35 feet when it hit the island of Hilo and only 15 feet when it reached Japan. The 2nd worst recorded Earthquake occurred December 26th, 2004 Earthquake Magnitude 9.1-9.3.This quake created 5 tsunamis. The largest/tallest recorded tsunami was created by a magnitude 7.9 earthquake that generated a wave 1720 feet high.
