Magna Carta (Latin, “Great Charter”), document sealed by King John of England on June 15, 1215, in which he made a series of promises to his subjects that he would govern England and deal with his vassals according to the customs of feudal law . It has since been considered the basis of English constitutional liberties (as well as those of countries influenced by English tradition) and a key event in the history of medieval Britain.

in 1215, because he was influenced to by his barons and his people, which is also known as the great charter, and was written in Latin because that was the only language they spoke in those days.

it was used so the king/queen cannot take away or demolish land or property or even to raise taxes.

The Magna Carta was first issued in 1215 and signed by King John, but John immediately repudiated many of its features. John died the following year, and several new versions of the charter were issued over the next several years. In 1225 Henry III reached the age of majority and agreed to confirm the charter in exchange for certain tax rights. In 1297 Edward I reissued the charter of 1225 again in return for certain tax rights. This version remains a part of English statues til today, although certain clauses have been repealed.
