It is the original Menorah used for the Jewish Holiday of Hanukkah, also spelled Chanukah. The Holiday stems from a miracle of oil lasting for eight days when there was only enough oil for one day. The miracle is the seven days of oil that were not accounted for materially. The one day is signified by the ordinary representing man, the seven days signifies the extraordinary representing God. The Hanukkah Menorah should have Eight Lights.

The Temple Menorah had 7 lights which signifies Holiness alone.

The significance of Hanukkah is the symbolism that God has set man apart from the ordinary and has set him together with God and that the the light of God shall not always burn alone but that God shall bring man unto himself and set him apart making him also Holy.

Growing up in a Jewish household I am very familiar with the Hanukkah Menorah, I came to Israel some ten years ago to discover that it was in the process of changing from having eight lights to nine lights; which is called a hanukia. The ninth light called a sham-ash is a relatively new addition which has become the centerpiece of the symbolic display and truly has no place there. But if the entire message of The Bible is true and the History of the Jewish People is true than this can be explained by an attack against the symbolism of the Jewish people. Many understand the importance of symbols which are connected to identity, Attack the symbols of a People you attack their Identity and their very direction.

Correction:

The Channukiah (Channukah candelabra) has 9 candles with the highest or lowest candle being called the 'shamash'. This is not a new addition, the shamash was introduced in the 7th century, and has always served the purpose of being used to light the other candles.
