Martin Lawrence's first television appearance was on Star Search. His performance earned recognition from television executives who gave him a role as Maurice on What's Happening Now.
Philo Farnsworth created what would be considered the first modern television set in 1927 which he then showed to the press for the first time on September 1, 1928. Television sets were sold very shortly after this, and the first real use of them came in Germany in 1929 with the first regular broadcasts.
Experimental television broadcasts began March 25, 1925, when Scottish inventor John Logie Baird gave a demonstration of televised silhouette images in motion at Selfridge's Department Store in London. But if television is defined as the transmission of live, moving, half-tone (grayscale) images — and not silhouette, duotone, or still images — Baird first achieved this privately on October 2, 1925.Then he gave the world's first public demonstration of a working television system to members of the Royal Institution and a newspaper reporter on January 26, 1926 at his laboratory in London. The first live transcontinental television broadcast took place in San Francisco, California with President Harry Truman's speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference on September 4, 1951, using AT&T's transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system. The first live coast-to-coast commercial television broadcast in the U.S. took place on November 18, 1951 with the premiere of See It Now, which showed a split screen view of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Color TV was introduced in the 1950's.
His first proper TV role and not just the odd appearance was back in 1998-2001 where he starred as JR Chandler in 'All My Children'.
