On the blade spindles, the fittings are just above blades under the mower deck. You'll need to remove the deck and flip it over (careful doing this, heavy and sharp). There are two more on the inside of the front axle, visible when looking at front wheels. These seem to be good mowers if you take reasonable care of them.
Use an impact air wrench and a socket with some wd-40.You may need to remove the deck if so there are two pins/bolts in the front and to in the rear pull them out slide deck out flip it over and there ya go you can do it with the deck on just jack it up

Answer Usually when the mower start smoking it means that the piston rings have too much wear in them and they allow more oil to be burned. This would require replacing the rings. This means engine tear down to accomplish. Another remote possibility is that one has put too much oil into it and it is forcing oil into the combustion chamber and will have the same smoking issue. Check the oil level. If it is too high then you will need to remove some of it out. Hope this helps you. Good luck. Black smoke means the engine is burning too rich a mixture - possible causes are: fouled spark plug (clean or replace); clogged air filter (clean or replace) or carburetor mixture needle(s) and/or linkage need adjustment. Blue-gray smoke means engine is burning oil - probable causes are leaking valve guides or worn piston rings which in either case need replacement. If your Cub Cadet LT1042 was made in 2005 or 2006 there is a engineering flaw in the engine short block. It is caused by the block cracking. Look at the engine in front looking toward the rear of the tractor. Now to the left of the engine down around where the cylinder head meets the case there could be a hair line crack running the length of the case. If this happened you are loosing vacuum that makes the fuel pump work. If there is a crack take it to any Cub Cadet dealer and they will replace the entire engine at NO cost. I just went through it with a dealer in Ohio, one refused to help but Northcoast equipment in Kingsville, OH bent over backward to solve this problem that I was having for 2 years,
