As part of a diplomatic mission to Sparta, Paris was in the city. After Menelaus left for the funeral (apparently in Tegea) Paris and Helen left for Troy. Thus started the Trojan War

He joined the group of Greek cities which set out to loot Asia Minor in retaliation. Paris did not kidnap Helen - she ran off most willingly and stole a lot of Menelaus' treasure to take with her.
