Depending on how bad the flood is (it could be 4 feet deep to 8 feet or more with rushing currents) they can die from drowning, debris in the water can hit them and many people don't know how to swim. Bacteria is also a problem. In New Orleans it was dead bodies in the water, crocks, snakes, the heat, drowning, people stranded on roof tops without food or water and not enough people to save them. Dehydration (from lack of water.) Starvation from the lack of food, and often, during the case of a flood there is a lot of looting going on regarding stores and even some homes still standing and often there can be loss of life due to weapons being used.
