The 1997 Dodge Dakota oil sending unit is in the oil pan, on the bottom of the engine. You will need to remove the oil pan in order to view the sending unit.

The sending unit is in the middle of the block on the drivers side.. You will need a deep socket to get it out.. Not easy to get to.. Looks like a big spark plug.. Mike
Behind drivers side valve cover at the firewall. The 6.5 diesel is known for the oil pressure sensor going bad. This three wire sensor is both the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge and the safety cut off for the fuel pump relay. (no oil pressure, no fuel pressure.)
