the alternator is located on the passenger side of the motor towards the bottom front.

∙ 14y agoOn the 4.2L engine it's on the left side of the engine compartment on top and closest to the front. It's essentially the easiest component in the belt system to see and get to.
WOW! I was shocked to see these price from $200-300-600! These are from a March 2009 check at Autozone and O'Reilly's auto parts. Certainly something to research 'alternative' sourcing options... (salvage, rebuild, etc)

I just went through this with my Windstar - stopped by my favorite Autozone and they did a pretty thorough electrical test, including the alternator and battery. Most of the auto parts stores offer free testing. Easiest thing to do is remove the positive connection to your battery if you Freestar stalls....Alternator is no good(just happened to me)
