On all fuel injection motors from the early 90's with fuel injection the fuel pump is located inside the gas tank. Before you try and pull the fuel pump out you need to relieve the presure in the lines. Please use caution. A good repair manual will tell you how to do this job the right way.

∙ 14y agoThe fuel filter is located on the side of the frame rail under the drivers seat. The fuel pump is located in the top of the fuel tank in the rear of the vehicle under the left rear passengers seat. You would have to lower the spare tire to see it. The tank has to come out of the vehicle to change it.

∙ 15y agoIf it fuel injected in the fuel tank -if carb. on lower side of engine--follow fuel lines I'm pretty sure '87 was the first year for throttle body fuel injection in GM trucks, so it should be in the tank.

∙ 16y agoProbably in the fuel tank. Most vehicles after 1990 had the in-tank fuel pumps. Which never go out until you have just filled the tank to the top and have to drain it completely to replace the pump.

But there are two fuel injectors that set on the top of the TBI ( THIS LOOKS LIKE A CARBURETOR) but its not. They spray fuel into the intake. I think that's what you are asking.

Drop the tank by disconnecting the bolts that hold the two straps, then lower the tank enough to disconnect the electrical and the fuel lines.
Clean the top, scrape away the soft rubber seal then remove the old pump and put in a new one.

The fuel sending unit for the fuel gauge would be located in the fuel tank.
The 1987 Chevrolet Suburban Scottsdale fuel pump relay switch can be found on the firewall in the engine compartment. The fuel pump relay switch will be on the passenger side of the firewall.
If it is a -TBI- then the pump is mounted in the gas tank, but if it has a -4bbl- then it should be mounted on the engine block passenger side.
The fuel cap release, for a Chevrolet Tahoe, is located on the floor next to the drivers seat. Pull the lever up to release the cap.
Turn the ignition on and see if you hear a humming coming from the pump. If it is inside the fuel tank, you can hear it from the back seat.
