Look at the lower end of the engine - try to follow the + battery cable
The starter is located just behind the top end of the engine. I have a '99 king quad. Mine solenoid clicks too. I thought it was a loose wire because sometimes it would turn over but I took it in and was told i need a new stARter. they run about $75.
The starter is located under the motor on the drivers side...if you're looking at it from under the car (which is where you'll need to be) it will be to the right and back of the catalytic converter. There are two silver pipes that run right by it...
Right side of vehicle under the oil filter for 4.0 engines. It is located on the starter. The solenoid is another smaller cylindrical shaped device that is mounted to the starter. If you have to replace it you have to buy the whole starter assembly that comes with a solenoid. I have not found a way to replace only the solenoid. Jeep engineered this to benefit their dealer service garages.

To remove the starter from a 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante, first, disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical issues. Then, access the starter by lifting the vehicle and removing any necessary components, like the air intake or cover, for better clearance. Unbolt the starter from its mount, disconnect the wiring harness and the power cable, and then carefully remove the starter from the engine compartment. Ensure to reverse the process for installation, checking connections and securing all bolts properly.

Accessing it may require lifting the car for better visibility and reach. Always consult the vehicle’s service manual for the exact location and replacement procedures.

Yes, you can manually release and open the trunk on a 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante. If the trunk release button or remote is not functioning, you can access the trunk release lever located inside the car, typically near the driver's seat. Additionally, if necessary, you can fold down the rear seats to reach the trunk from the cabin. Always refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions related to your vehicle.
