Conservatives are on the right of the political spectrum. They want to maintain the staus quo, in that the wealthy stay that way. ( & by definition so do the poor) They are not in favour of change. They might be described as reactionary. They are, or tend to be, older than some people. The opposite of Conservative is Liberal or Socialist who might be described as left wing.

The Conservative Party's ideas have been supported by several parties, on separate issues, during the present Parliament. As the Conservative Party governs with only a plurality of seats, it depends on convincing at least one opposition party, at each vote, to support Conservative Party motions. The Liberal Party of Canada, the Bloc Québécois, and the New Democratic Party of Canada have all on separate occasions, and sometimes together, supported the Conservative Party.
