The Brachial Artery. Yet direct pressure applied directly to the wound or a tourniquet is more effective at stopping arterial bleeding.

Tourniquets are not used any more because they cut off all blood flow to the limb therefore depriving the limb of Oxygen, sugar, heat, and of course the body's defence against infection, (lymphocytes), and the much needed platelets for the coagulation of blood. If cells are deprived of these things they will die, (necrosis), which will result in gangrene and an amputation.
