It has got to be The Beatles. Everything thing they did, was innovative and done for the first time by them. They wrote and recorded their own songs with harmonies and new and different "strange" instruments and included new effects like controlled feedback and double tracking. They revolutionised how contemporary popular music was written, played, recorded and presented. They covered a lot of musical ground including Rock and Roll, Rock, Hard Rock, Country, Blues, Ballads, Psychodelia, Instrumentals, Soul, Folk, Indian, ie. not stuck in the rut of just one musical genre. The Beatles' music influenced their contemporaries, those who came after them, and those who came after them. It appealed to all age groups and to people all over the world. Nearly 40 years after the Beatles disbanded, they are still selling millions of the Beatles recorded work. There has never been a band like the Beatles and I doubt there ever will be again. The Beatles were and still are, the top of the heap, not just because I like them, but because they were truly a great band. Perhaps in another 100 years, when people are still buying Beatles music, they might be elevated to Classical Masters, such as we remember Bach, Mozart and Beethoven now.
