Jews, Christians, and Muslims believe that God created the world in six days, resting on the seventh. There is no discussion of how God created the world in scripture other than He spoke and it happened.

Science teaches that the universe resulted from the explosive expansion of the primordial atom (the big bang). All matter and energy resulted from this incident. As the universe expanded, elements of the new universe collected into disks and clouds that formed galaxies and star systems. One of those star systems became Sol or the Solar system, our star. As Sol formed, the bulk of the initial disk formed the central star, the remainder of the disk material formed the planetary disk. This disk eventually collected into the planets and other bodies of the solar system. The newly formed planets spun and revolved, the inner planets cooled and became rocky. Atmospheres collected around the four little rocks, and one developed life, Earth.

Contrary to historical reactions, there is nothing contradictory between the Creation story and the accepted scientific understanding. If God created the universe, a being that he is to have that ability could have done it in any way He chose. It seems fortuitous to the life forms of that universe that He obviously wrote the rules to be logical, observable, and stable...largely stable, entropy notwithstanding.
