Ventus is one of the three protagonists/playable characters of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.
Ventus was a former apprentice of Master Xehanort before moving in with Master Eraqus and his two apprentices, Terra and Aqua. While training under Master Xehanort, his heart was fractured and to survive he borrowed part of the light from Sora's heart (this is why Sora's Nobody, Roxas, looks exactly like Ventus).

Ventus, Terra and Aqua never had their hearts stolen, so they do not have Nobodies. However, Ventus' spirit was passed on to Sora, which is why his Nobody, Roxas, looks like Ventus.

**This answer contains spoilers from the KH: Birth By Sleep game** At the end of BBS, Ventus is locked in a coma to which he will not wake up. Aqua takes his body to the Land of Departure and locks the world's keyhole, transforming it into Castle Oblivion, sealing Ven in so he won't be disturbed.
