What is the suffocating chest pain associated with coronary artery disease called?

It is called "angina" or more specifically "angina pectoris" (Latin a strangling of the chest). It is caused by the lack of oxygen to the heart muscles, the blood flow in the cardiac arteries being blocked, typically by atherosclerosis.

Ischemia is it curable?

Yes it is in some sense, the problem is generally related to the inefficient blood circulation to the heart. There is a treatment available nowadays which solely focuses on blood circulation known as EECP treatment or ECP treatment (External counter pulsation) which is as simple as a massage and would help you in creating multiple natural bypasses in your heart. This treatment involves no invasive surgery or medicine use. It is effective because it results in opening up of newer blood vessels in your heart ( a process known as angiogenesis) and thus creating multiple natural bypasses. It is also beneficial for patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, high cholesterol, obesity, ischemic stroke and many more diseases.

What heart disease is a group of cardiac disabilities resulting from an insufficient supply of oxygenated blood to the heart?

Ischaemic Heart Disease (coronary artery disease or CAD) is a condition in which atheroma (fatty deposits) builds up in the linings of the walls of the coronary arteries. This causes a narrow artery and reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. This process can occur in other arteries of the body. Important arteries which, if affected can have medical consequences, are the carotid arteries in the neck, (which supply blood to the brain), and the femoral /popliteal arteries in the legs. In these situations a bruit (noise) may be heard over the area affected (i.e. carotid or femoral arteries), through a stethoscope. Atheroma at a certain point, results in obstruction to the blood flow of the coronary arteries, which leads to the inability to provide adequate oxygen to the cardiac muscle, therefore an inability to meet demand. Therefore when the heart has to work harder (i.e. in exercise, or in certain medical conditions, such as hyperthyroidism or anaemia insufficient blood reaches the heart muscle. The muscle is then said to be ischaemic. Ischaemia can also occur from coronary artery spasm, or when the heart is enlarged from increased strain, such as in high blood pressure (hypertension) or tightness at the root of the main blood vessel leading from the heart (aortic stenosis). In practice, a reduction in coronary artery diameter by 50% or more, on coronary arteriogram is judged significant, and will most likely cause symptoms of angina. Myocardial Ischaemia is manifested in central chest pain, causing stable angina, unstable angina and myocardial infarction (MI).

Why do they have to keep giving blood for renal artery?

this is because the decrease in blood flow to the kidney will trigger the RENIN ANGIOTENSIN mechanism, which stimulates the Increase of Arterial Blood Pressure to get the kidney more blood, also the kidney one tof the sensetive organs to ischemia

What causes angina pectoris?

Usually a stenotic coronary artery caused by atherosclerosis. The stenotic (narrowed) artery can give a brief period of ischemia (withholding of blood) to a region of the heart, which is felt as an intense pain. Angina pectoris is a sign that a more serious episode of ischemic attack can happen for that artery. If it is left untreated, it is very likely that the artery will eventually become completely clogged and the ensuing prolonged ischemia will cause a myocardial infarction (i.e. heart attack).

What is the medical term meaning agent against angina?

Angina pectoris is the medical term for chest pain or discomfort caused by coronary heart disease. It occurs when the heart muscle does not get as much blood as it needs. This usually happens because one or more arteries in the heart become narrowed or blocked, also known as ischemia.

Describe unstable angina due to ischemia?

Unstable angina, which increases the risk of a heart attack, occurs more frequently, lasts longer, is more severe, and may cause discomfort during rest or light exertion.

How is heredity a risk factor for ischemia?

What is angina and the causes of?

A pain in the chest caused by inadequate blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart. adam.about.com/care/cholesterol/Cholesterol-glossary.htm ==The blood flow flows through your arteries and when you eat fat it raises your cholesterol level. When that is raised, the cholesterol in your arteries that flow through with build a wall on the inside of the artery, clogging it up. It is a slow process, but once it is complete, the human ends up having a cardiac arrest or a stroke. When that wall is being built, it causes the blood to have a hard time getting through the artery. ==

What does myocardial ischemia look like on an ECG?

The ECG sign of subendocardial ischemia is ST segment depression. Note that ECG is used more now that EKG.

Why do people take nitroglycerin if they have angina?

Nitro causes the blood vessels to expand, allowing more blood to flow. This eases the pain associated with Angina.

What is the symptom of angina?

Angina can be difficult to recognize as it is common for it to feel like indigestion, nausea, tiredness and dizziness. Some people may experience pain in their arms, shoulders, neck, jaw, throat, or back. In men, angina has been reported as a tightness, pressure and pain in the chest. Women, however are more likely to feel discomfort in the neck, jaw, throat, abdomen, or back. Regardless of the symptoms, any chest pain should be immediately checked out by your doctor for a full examination.
