Where did Michelangelo do most of his work?

Most of Michelangelo's paintings usually concern religion, like most Renaissance painting and sculptures did, such as, The Statue of David, by Michelangelo, The Last Supper, by Leonardo Da Vinci, and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, also by Michelangelo.Fun Fact: When Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, all of the faces of the people painted were people he had met, and knew fairly well. Strangely enough, he painted himself in Hell.

Where did Michelangelo include a self-portrait in the Last judgment?

In the center of the painting is Jesus himself, who decides if half the human race joins him in Heaven, or must be sentenced to Hell for the rest of their afterlife. A lot of people are typically confused by The Last Judgment because of the fact that there is a lot going on at the same time. If looked closely, the top half represents those who are saints, angels and those who will go to Heaven, while the bottom still has those who are being resurrected or going to Hell on a boat led by a demon. All in all, this has to be the most complex painting Michelangelo has ever made.

How do you do a flat black paint job?

It's almost impossible to do with a brush. Get a good spray can (Krylon or similar) and prep your material well, then spray it in a shop or garage where temp. is around 75 deg. Start with very light coats, overpainting gives a different texture. A good spray can? What the hell? There is no such thing as a good spray can. Get a paint gun and get some flat black paint from the auto paint supply store and learn.

Who did Michelangelo make art for?

Michelangelo's vocation was sculpting. Perhaps his most famous sculpture was the David (Currently in Florence, Italy) and he is widely known for his painting the Sistine Chapel (in the Vatican, in Rome, Italy). Pope Julius II first commissioned Michelangelo to build his tomb, which was not completed and had only 1 of the 40 statues Michelangelo was to build. It was not done by the time the pope died. Before Julius II passed, though, he commissioned Michelangelo to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He didn't want to paint it, because he was not a painter; he was a sculptor. He did it, though. It is painted with scenes from the Old and New Testament. It was considered innapropriate and there was much discrepancy over it, because it portraied nude figures in the Pope's private chapel. The Pope did not want to take it down, so it remains today, expressing human beauty. Later the Last Judgment was commissioned by Clement VII in the same room as the Sistine Chapel. It showed Jesus in His full glory, coming to earth to judge the living and the dead. Saints are depicted with symbols of their martyrdom, and St. Bartholomew holds Michelangelo's flayed skin. In a kind of whirlwind, the pure souls fly to heaven, while the damned souls are sent to Hell, with expressions of pure terror and fear written plainly on their faces. He also painted his "enemy" in the corner of the painting as a kind of devil. Michelangelo claims the figure is helping to judge the souls, but I personally think he was getting back at the guy. I hope this helped. Source(s) I'm doing a research paper on him.

What was Michelangelo drawings about?

Michelangelo preferred sculpting like the David (a character from the old testament who killed a giant with a slingshot. Google image ''David by Michelangelo or the Pieta (the virgin Mary holding the dead Jesus in her arms. See link: http:/humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/humftp/Fine_Arts/Gallery/michelangelo/lj-a.jpg). But he did paint the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. On the ceiling he did scenes from the old testament like the one of creation where God and Adam are touching hands (see link: http://www.success.co.il/knowledge/images/Pillar2-Supernatural-GodCreates-Man-Sistine-Chapel.jpg). He also did the Last Judgement on the back wall of the Sistine Chapel (this is about when God ends the world and some go to heaven some to purgatory and most to hell: the apocalypse. See link:http:/humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/humftp/Fine_Arts/Gallery/michelangelo/lj-a.jpg).

How is the Sistine Chapel different from other churches?

The Sistine Chapel ceiling and one wall were painted by Michelangelo. His frescoes have become popular modern prints, the unbelievably beautiful touching of hands or giving life. It is the only chapel that took so many years to complete, and restored about 6 years ago or so, and interestingly enough, when the grime was removed, one of the angels who was sent into hell had serpents wrapped around his torso and finally holding on for dear life to his private part. I found this interesting that the artist would give that sort of punishment, especially when the Pope had problems with the nudity in the beginning of the chapel painting. The Sistine Chapel is also different from other churches because it is where the Cardinals have always met to select a new Pope. The Chapel is also located in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican, Rome, Italy.
