Farmers are important to scientist because of their knowledge of the land and crops. They sow newly developed strains of crops, and tend these fields and report their succes or failure, if they compromise other crops, the hardines of the new strains, and any adverse effects on the grains , or produce and any unwanted cross-pollination. And that's just hitting the highlights on this topic.
