Trucks are rear wheel drive because they are designed to haul heavy weights in the bed. If a truck was front wheel drive, the driver would have trouble with steering, handling, and traction because the weight in the bed would unload the front suspension.

However, when a truck is unloaded, the same problems can occur by having little weight on the rear of the truck (bad handling/braking when driving in wet or icy conditions).

Trucks have a purpose; if you aren't going to haul anything, don't buy a truck or deal with the problems that occur when you aren't hauling anything.
