Claude Monet was born in Paris, November 14, 1840. As a schoolboy, he drew caricatures of sailors, and Parisians. His drawings showed such talent, that a local art shop owner displayed them in his windows. These drawings caught the attention of the famous artist, Eugene Boudin, who asked Monet to paint with him on the beach. It was after this encounter that Monet decided to become a painter.

Monet succeeded in creating a new form of art through an impressionist style. At the time he started painting art was very formal and posed, but he brought about a form that brought nature and reality into art. His art, along with the other impressionist, gave the "impression" of an object, person, or nature and it wasn't as defined as the paintings that were shown in the art shows/museums.

Claude Monet tried to capture his subject based on his impression. That's why it is called Impressionism. His style is different from the traditional painting of copying the exact details of a subject. His paintings show a scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects.
