Early man depended on hunting because it was there only food source. They didn't know how to plant and the animals had all the nutrition they needed. If they could hunt them, they did. They really had no other option for food. Farming and agriculture had not yet been discovered, so all these early humans could do was follow the animals where ever it is that they might go and to gather fruits and berries along the way. We call these people, hunter-gatherers.
They really don't use power tools but they do HAVE to use household items such as a pencil, a notepad, blue prints, and a ruler.

It really depends on how you define early and modern man, but generally, early man's tools were made of bone, stone, flint, and eventually bronze. Modern man's tools are made today out of a variety of metals, such as iron and steel (iron containing carbon and other substances).
