The ability to produce a reasonable drawing or sketch of people or objects can be considered both an art form and a useful technical skill.

As an artform it is found to be both meaningful and interesting for those skilledd in the art.

For the technical person it allows a resonable representation of situations for the instruction of others or as an aide memoire for the creator. As an example a plumber may draw an unusual fitting for discussion with a supplier if no photograph can be taken. Similarly accident investigators often sketch out the scene of the event with notes to aid in determining the causes or to record the situation.

Some people such as cartoonists, comercial artists and the like can make a living by drawing.
