Answer 2
If you view criticism of your beliefs as persecution, then you do not understand the meaning of the word. The United States is not now, never has been, and never will be a Christian nation. We are and always have been a secular democracy, which means that no religion has any special status in our laws. It also means that people are free to criticise other people's beliefs -- political, social, or religious -- out loud and in public. I am even free to ridicule your religious beliefs, but I am not free to use the power of the government to force you to believe in my religion and you are not free to use the government to force me to believe in yours. By attempting to cloak yourself in a shroud of victimhood because of the terrible "persecution" of having people tell you that some of your beliefs are foolish or even nonsensical, you insult people who have been actually persecuted -- people like Jesus Christ himself, for example, as well as the present-day Christians in some other parts of the world.
[please note: it is not illegal in the U.S. to ridicule someone else's religious beliefs, but it is rude and may be in violation of the terms of service of this website.]

Persecution of faith is any action taken to prevent or deter others from holding whatever religious beliefs they choose and worshipping as they please, subject only to the public good. It includes punishments meted out for religious beliefs or worship, official sanctions, damage to temples, mosques or churches, or theft of religious property. In some circumstances it can even include officially refusing to register a religion or grant it the right to hold services or perform public sacrifices. It is the same whether, for example, Christians were persecuted by pagans or Christians persecuted pagans.
