Most often in Catholic churches, these pictures are the Stations of the Cross. The old church I attended as a child also had a brass plate under the window that explained each beautiful piece of the stained glass art along with the number of the Station of the Cross. These plaques were on the inside of course.

∙ 14y agoAbbot Suger was a enthusiastic architect. He had ideas of rebuilding and embellishing the church. Because he believed that the basilica was not fit to serve as the official church of the French Kings. He decided to use costly furnishings to make a light filled space, that would delight in the beauty of the house of God.Lots of gold and gems were used in the rebuilding of the church. However, most of the architectural innovations came from moving upper columns, fixing dimensions and making central arches. All these combinations of architectural innovations made the whole church shine. And so thanks to Sugar we see a lot more costly stained glass and sculptures in the cathedrals of the Gothic age.

Gives the impression that the stained glass has the same form as the manuscript illuminations. Counter lines and geometric shapes are found in both works of arts. The colors of the manuscript's and windows are extremely alike, both have darker hues and a lot of primary colors. They also tell stories, which is a sense of time and motion.
